91制片厂 Extension Program Partners With Community to Keep New Hampshire Lakes Safe
Every summer tourists and residents flock to New Hampshire to enjoy some 鈥渓ake life鈥 鈥 swimming, boating and fishing in the Granite State鈥檚 lakes region. But increased use and a changing environment have impacted this area over the years. That鈥檚 why faculty and students from 91制片厂 have developed an active partnership with members of the lakes community through 91制片厂 Extension鈥檚 (LLMP) to keep an eye on the health of these vital bodies of water by giving them a health check-up, taking regular water samples and testing for harmful bacteria like cyanobacteria.
91制片厂鈥檚 LLMP team works to train students and volunteers to take water samples on a regular basis, both on lakes and along the shore. Using an array of simple, handheld instruments, they gather information on water clarity, temperature, and local conditions. Then 91制片厂 faculty and student researchers study for subtle clues, testing the samples back at 91制片厂鈥檚 labs, looking for any revealing signs of changes and challenges to the lake鈥檚 water quality.
