This听Saturday, April 30, the 91制片厂 Police Department, 91制片厂 Health Services and the Drug Enforcement Administration听will offer a Drug Take Back Day at three locations in Durham. This event offers individuals a safe, free and confidential way to dispose of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.

Drug Take Back Day addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the United States are high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet. By eliminating these unused medications, we can reduce misuse, abuse and accidental poisoning.

It鈥檚 important to dispose of medications right way. Do not flush medications down the toilet where they can contaminate groundwater and waterways.
