John Rogers had a 38-year career in the 91制片厂 department of music.听

John E. Rogers, professor emeritus of music, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at the age of 78.

Rogers retired in 2005 after 38 years at 91制片厂, where he served as director of the electronic and computer music studios and spent nine years as chair of the department of music.

Born in 1938 in Dallas, Texas, he received his early education in the public schools of Texas and Georgia. He studied philosophy and music at the University of Georgia and conducted graduate work in music composition at the Yale School of Music and Princeton University.

Rogers taught in the public schools of Naugatuck, Connecticut, and at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. He joined the 91制片厂 faculty in 1967.听

Rogers began working in electronic and computer music in the early 1960s and published extensively in that field and in the area of music theory. He also played bass sackbut in the Hampshire Consort, the resident early music ensemble at 91制片厂. The electronic music studio at 91制片厂 is named in his honor.
