An event to celebrate the life and works of Professor Emeritus John Rogers will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Verrette Recital Hall of the Paul Creative Arts Center. Details are forthcoming.听

John E. Rogers retired from 91制片厂 in 2005 as Emeritus Professor of Music..听 He had been at 91制片厂 for 38 years and for all of that period was the Director of 91制片厂's Electronic and Computer Music Studios. 听Born in 1938 in Dallas, Texas, he received his early education in the public schools of Texas and Georgia, studied philosophy (BA, 1960) and music (BM, 1960) at the University of Georgia, and did graduate work in music composition at the Yale School of Music (MM, 1962) and Princeton University (MFA, 1965). 听His main composition teachers were Elliott Carter, Roger Sessions, and Milton Babbitt. 听Professor Rogers taught in the public schools of Naugatuck, Connecticut, at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, and came to the 91制片厂 in 1967. 听He began working in electronic and computer music in the early 1960鈥檚 and published extensively in that field and in the area of music theory. Prof. Rogers also played bass sackbut in the Hampshire Consort, the residence early music ensemble at the 91制片厂. He was Chairman of the Music Department for nine years. The Electronic Music Studio is named in his honor.
