听

Snow begins to buzz into the sifted evening听

You remove your shoes at the door听

Billie Holiday鈥檚 album cover is orange听

She听听听听听听听sings beautifully听

听

You water the ferns in the nude听

Long curls flick your parchment skin听

You sway near the brass-colored couch听

I am the voyeur who lives inside you听

听

For a discount this fall听

you bought a pot of red mums听

as the colors of summer buckled听

against the descending weight of autumn听

听

Now our color is the orange听

of low sodium streetlights听

casting shape in a blizzard听

The mums are dead听

听

Inside the lights are on听

Our town听

is a dark town at听night听

with an observatory on the hill听

that we could see from here听

if we had shut off the lights听

听
