Women studying biotechnology in the 91制片厂 Manchester biotechnology innovation center

Women make up nearly half of the U.S. workforce, but only 27% of the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) workforce. Women are vastly underrepresented in STEM鈥攁nd at 91制片厂 Manchester, we鈥檙e trying to change that.

Join us on Zoom on November 9 at 5 p.m. for , a panel discussion featuring women alumni working in STEM fields as well as women students pursuing STEM degrees. This virtual event is designed to educate young women about the wealth of academic and career opportunities in STEM鈥攁nd empower them to pursue them.

The panel includes alumna Alicia Finney 鈥18, alumna Maggie O鈥橞rien 鈥20 and alumna Aurora Van De Water 鈥18.

Virtual Women in STEM

Tuesday, November 9
5 - 6 p.m. via Zoom

"I believe that it鈥檚 our job as women in technology to always advocate and mentor other women to ensure that we continue to be represented in this growing industry," says O鈥橞rien, who designs and develops automated workflows and custom applications for large manufacturing organizations in the U.S. and Canada as a technical consultant at Arbela Technologies.

Finney, who is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in cellular, molecular and biomedical sciences, says it鈥檚 important for young women to be able to see themselves represented in STEM fields.

"As women, if we have any interest in science, we are often pushed towards healthcare to continue to be seen as the caregivers and nurturers. While this is a wonderful and fulfilling career path for many, I knew it wasn鈥檛 for me, but saw it for a long time as the only option to integrate my love of biology into a career, Finney said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 by having many mentors along the way who have modeled an alternative path forward that I was able to recognize the potential for my own career as a researcher."

Be inspired by these women and others in the STEM fields at our event on November 9 at 5 p.m.
