Magnets are at the core of the technology that powers our world: smartphones, medical devices, power generators, electric vehicles, and more. But these magnets rely on expensive, imported, and increasingly difficult to obtain rare-earth elements, and no new permanent magnet has been discovered from the many magnetic compounds we know exist.

There was a time when Katie Hawkinson 鈥22 never imagined herself in sales. Shy and soft-spoken, she sometimes wouldn鈥檛 even engage over the phone.聽
That changed when she joined 91制片厂鈥檚 Professional Sales Group (PSG) in her junior year. Through immersive coursework, sales competitions, and mentorship from professionals, Hawkinson developed the confidence to pitch, negotiate, and close 鈥 skills that led to an internship at BitSight, a Boston-based cybersecurity firm, and ultimately to her current role as an account executive.聽

At 91制片厂鈥檚 Woodman Horticultural Research Farm, Becky Sideman, 91制片厂 professor of horticulture, is growing 19 varieties of cold-hardy hydrangeas that florists could use as cut flowers: arborescens, like the one she cuts here, panicle and oak leaf. She鈥檚 found that arborescens and panicle varieties 鈥渂asically grow themselves,鈥 but she steers clear of the classic blue macrophylla hydrangeas, which don鈥檛 bloom reliably in our Northern New England climate.

After more than a decade as a nurse on the med-surg floor at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, Swenson鈥檚 mentors encouraged her to consider becoming an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN). As she explored her options, a well-timed email about 91制片厂鈥檚 Advanced Nursing Education Workforce (ANEW) program helped make the next step clear. 聽
Swenson's previous degrees and coursework allowed her to fast-track into 91制片厂鈥檚 program. With ANEW support, Swenson, a mother of four, completed her clinical hours in the Huggins network near her home in Ossipee.聽
