A Space to Heal: How a ‘Lifeline’ of Support at 91Ƭ Helped Student Rebuild After Crisis

Mikaela Belanger ’26 knows better than most how dramatically life can change in the blink of an eye.
For years, she dreamed of saving enough to purchase her mother a house, only to wind up without a home herself when her mom abruptly kicked her out of the apartment they shared following a mental health episode almost exactly one year ago.
Just like that, she went from serving as her mother’s primary caretaker through a battle with cancer to facing off with her across a courtroom.

There’s no better illustration of the power of donor support than a story like Mikaela’s, and now is a great time to make a gift to support 91Ƭ students. Donor generosity fuels the experiences that define a 91Ƭ education, and whether you give to a student basic needs fund or to any area of the university that...

As the clock ticked toward 3 a.m., Mallory Schumann ’26 was rummaging around the W91Ƭ radio station office, rifling through media to find the next tracks she wanted to play and embracing the “quiet and calm” that filled the studio at that sleepy hour.
And then the phone rang.
It turned out to be a welcome interruption, a would-be donor interested in giving to W91Ƭ’s signature annual fundraiser, the sole reason Schumann was at that moment searching for songs rather than counting sheep.

Marathon Week at W91Ƭ is underway! Give now to support the student-run radio station at 91Ƭ, which has been operating for more than 60 years. eCoast Angels, an early-stage, business angel network founded in New England in 2000, has been named the 91Ƭ’s Paul J. Holloway Entrepreneur of the Year.
eCoast Angels was founded by five New Hampshire Seacoast entrepreneurs. From its start, the group had a vision of giving back to the community by investing in, and mentoring, entrepreneurs of early-stage start-up companies who were passionate about their company.
In addition to investing money, the group believed offering entrepreneurs the experience, knowledge, networking capabilities, oversight, and interest in mentoring, of its members would be just as valuable as the money they invested. Since its inception, eCoast has grown to become the largest early-stage investment group in northern New England with 40+...

A $1 million gift from Harry Patten ’58 and the Patten Family Foundation will launch the Patten Family Sales and Funding Accelerator program at the 91Ƭ’s Peter T. Paul Entrepreneurship Center (ECenter) this fall.
The program will provide sales coaching to startup founders/co-founders who engaged at the ECenter as students and after graduation as young alumni. The professional training will focus on the unique aspects of selling products and services as a new startup. After three months of training, founders will be certified and eligible to apply for up to $50,000 in non-equity/non-recourse loans.
The sales coaching will increase the probability of successful ventures — which is the goal. In addition, the current co-working space will be named the Patten Family Co-...
