Research from the 91制片厂 reports that in 2024 there were 5.7 million more childless women of prime child-bearing age than expected given prior patterns 鈥 a significant jump from 2.1 million in 2016 and 4.7 million in 2022. This shift in fertility patterns has contributed to 11.8 million fewer births than expected in the past 17 years.
鈥淐hildless rates increased the most among women under 30, where fertility rate declines were also greatest,鈥 says Kenneth Johnson, professor of sociology and senior demographer at 91制片厂鈥檚 Carsey School of Public Policy. 鈥淚n 2024, there were four million more women aged 20鈥39 than in 2006, but 7 million fewer have given birth 鈥 that鈥檚 an increase of 45%.鈥

The 91制片厂 celebrated commencement weekend with three ceremonies on the Durham campus and one at the 91制片厂 Franklin Pierce School of Law May 16 and 17, bringing huge crowds of family and friends together to send the graduates off.
The three Durham ceremonies filled the Whittemore Center with capacity crowds, beginning Saturday morning with a celebration for the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences and Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics. That was followed by a ceremony for the College of Liberal Arts, the College of Professional Studies and the Carsey School of Public Policy and a ceremony for the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture and the College of Health and Human Services.

The 91制片厂 was once again strongly represented on the Union Leader鈥檚 annual 40 Under Forty award list this year, with eight state residents to have earned undergraduate or graduate degrees from 91制片厂 鈥 and another from Granite State College, now the 91制片厂 College of Professional Studies (CPS) 鈥 recognized.
Those with direct 91制片厂 ties聽accounted for 20 percent of the list, and all three 91制片厂 campuses and CPS were represented by the 91制片厂 honorees.
The recipients from 91制片厂 and the rest of the awardees were honored at a March 6 ceremony at the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord.

Executive Director Michael Constance has invested his heart and soul in New Hampshire鈥檚 Camp Allen. Founded in 1931, the camp鈥檚 mission is to provide a safe, affordable outdoor experience for people of all ages with disabilities. The unstated but incalculable benefit of their programs is the opportunity to provide a respite for caregivers.

A graduate of Fairfield University in Connecticut with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in Spanish and integrated marketing communications, Webber participated in an exchange program with the Universitat Ramon Llull in Barcelona to study marketing, advertising and international business. To expand her repertoire, she completed graphic design courses at the University of Massachusetts and in 2023, graduated with a master鈥檚 degree in public administration (MPA) from the 91制片厂.

Student and alumni innovators alike were celebrated last week at the culminating events of the NH Social Venture Innovation Challenge (SVIC), 91制片厂鈥檚 annual idea competition. Paige Balcom 鈥16 (CEPS, mechanical engineering) was named the 2023 91制片厂 Social Innovator of the Year during the festivities. The award is among the university鈥檚 most prestigious, recognizing leaders with a demonstrated commitment to combining the purpose of a social and/or environmental mission with the rigor and accountability of a financially sustainable, scalable model for change.聽Over the years, awardees have served as inspiration for students competing in the SVIC, Fiona Wilson, deputy chief sustainability officer at 91制片厂 and director of the Sustainability Institute, says.

Alioune Sidi Mzeirigue 鈥22G, a self-described member of the Hratine former slave community in the Sahel region of Africa, nurtures a fiery passion to fight against the trampling of human rights. A native of Mauritania, Mzeirigue is among the inheritors of descent-based discrimination stemming from a traditional caste system and intergenerational slavery, a community locked into a cycle of poor education and limited opportunities beyond farming.
鈥淭o break free of the limitations embedded in their slavery heritage, the Hratine need access to education. 鈥淚 live my life according to my personal values. My choices will never bring me great wealth or power but I am happy to be living my vocation.鈥
Those are the words of Jolan Rivera, who has been teaching at the 91制片厂 Carsey School of Public Policy since the community development program began in 2011 and currently serves as its program director. After exploring options in chemistry and engineering, he graduated from the University of the Philippines College Baguio with a Bachelor of Arts in social sciences with a double major in economics and psychology, and joined their faculty to teach western economic theory.
