Take a tour of the Shoals Marine Laboratory, located on the rugged, beautiful Appledore Island off the coast of Maine and New Hampshire. Aimee Bousquet, a marine, estuarine, and freshwater biology major at 91ÖÆƬ³§, shows what life is really like at Shoals: immersive fieldwork, small classes, sustainable living, and unforgettable experiences surrounded by ocean and science. Whether you’re interested in marine biology, sustainability, conservation, or just want to learn by doing, Shoals offers the kind of hands-on learning that makes a lasting impact.

Summer of ’24 has already broken heat records here in New England, but some in our 91ÖÆƬ³§ community are staying cool. Here are five ways our ’Cats are beating the dog days of summer.
Cruising on an icebreaker.
Three researchers from 91ÖÆƬ³§â€™s world-renowned Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping — director Larry Mayer, associate director Brian Calder, and affiliate assistant research professor Liz Weidner ’23G — are in northern Greenland on board the Swedish icebreaker Oden. They’re mapping the seafloor of this unexplored region, contributing to our understanding of the melting Greenland Ice Sheet and its impact on sea level rise.

Chilling above the Arctic Circle.
