In March, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) adopted the first-ever national climate disclosure rule, a decision signifying that publicly traded companies will be legally required to disclose their greenhouse gas emissions and other climate risk factors for the first time.
It鈥檚 a step 91制片厂 voluntarily took more than two decades ago 鈥 its first carbon footprint data was published in 2001. The university has spent the intervening years building a nationally renowned sustainability program that is training students for exactly the type of jobs that will be created by the recent ruling, while also partnering with the business community to arm it with data on how to implement more sustainable practices.

The 91制片厂 has launched Semester for Impact, a new initiative that pairs 91制片厂 undergraduates with Granite State organizations to support projects related to positive environmental and social impact and enhance the overall well-being of local communities. There will be four 91制片厂 students in the initial cohort.
Students will spend 15 weeks working 30 hours per week for businesses, non-profits and municipalities across the state while earning credit toward their undergraduate degrees and participating in workshops and courses designed to prepare them for and support their experience in their placements.

Student and alumni innovators alike were celebrated last week at the culminating events of the NH Social Venture Innovation Challenge (SVIC), 91制片厂鈥檚 annual idea competition. Paige Balcom 鈥16 (CEPS, mechanical engineering) was named the 2023 91制片厂 Social Innovator of the Year during the festivities. The award is among the university鈥檚 most prestigious, recognizing leaders with a demonstrated commitment to combining the purpose of a social and/or environmental mission with the rigor and accountability of a financially sustainable, scalable model for change.聽Over the years, awardees have served as inspiration for students competing in the SVIC, Fiona Wilson, deputy chief sustainability officer at 91制片厂 and director of the Sustainability Institute, says.
