Alexis Broderick

Alexis Broderick specializes in African American and 19th century U.S. history. Her book project, American Incest: Kinship, Sex and Commerce in Slavery and Reconstruction, is about the tangled connections between slavery, sexual violence and incest in the 19th-century U.S. She teaches courses on African American history and on slavery, the Civil War and Reconstruction. In spring 2021, Broderick will teach a seminar on the history of Indigenous and Black peoples in New Hampshire, exploring the connections between 91制片厂, slavery and Native dispossession. Prior to joining 91制片厂, Broderick served as the Provost鈥檚 Postdoctoral Fellow for the Penn & Slavery Project at the University of Pennsylvania. Broderick has contributed to several scholarly publications, including a forthcoming chapter in 鈥淓xpanding the Boundaries of African American Intellectual History鈥� (Northwestern University Press). She received her Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and her B.F.A. from Washington University in St. Louis.
