
Earlier this month, 91制片厂 professor of Russian Ronald LeBlanc delivered the keynote address for "Culture and Cuisine in Russia and Eastern Europe," a conference held at the University of Texas at Austin.听 His talk was titled "From Russian Vegetarians to Soviet Hamburgers: Tolstoy, Pilnyak, and the Ethics/Politics of Diet." LeBlanc is the author of听Slavic Sins of the Flesh: Food, Sex, and Carnal Appetite in Nineteenth-Century Russian Fiction听(2009). He has written numerous "gastrocritical" studies on food and eating in the works of such writers as Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Gogol, Goncharov, Bulgakov, and Olesha.
