
The 91制片厂鈥檚 Department of English is pleased to announce that celebrated author and听New York Times Magazine听writer Benoit Denizet-Lewis will read from his work and hold a Q & A session at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016 at the Memorial Union Building, Theatre I, on the Durham Campus, as part of the 91制片厂 Writers Series.
Denizet-Lewis听is the author of three nonfiction books and numerous听New York Times Magazine听pieces and cover stories on sexual identity, youth culture, sports, and dogs. His most recent book,听Travels with Casey: My Journey Through Our Dog-Crazy Country,听premiered on the听NYT听Bestseller list and was听People听and听罢颈尘别鈥檚book of the week.听 His first book,听America Anonymous: Eight Addicts in Search of a Life,听was a听NYT听Editors鈥 Choice. Denizet-Lewis is a co-producer of the film 鈥淚 Am Michael,鈥 which is based on his 2011听NYT Magazine听piece, 鈥淢y Ex-Gay Friend.鈥 In 2014,听The Advocate听named Denizet-Lewis one of the 50 most influential LGBT people working in media. 听Publishers Weekly听described his portraits of adolescents as 鈥渟tirring and sensitive鈥 as they struggle 鈥渢o articulate desire and identity while bearing the weight of societal taboo and marginalization.鈥 The writer Andrew Solomon concurred, stating, 鈥淏enoit writes with an impressive mix of transparency and compassion鈥 He sees deep into the sadness of desperate people, and equally deep into the systems that redeem such sadness.鈥
