, assistant professor of , has been selected for a 2021-22 fellowship by Harvard University鈥檚 Warren Center for Studies in American History.

The Warren Center鈥檚 annual workshop and fellowship program next year is dedicated to the topic of slavery and universities. As a Charles Warren Visiting Scholar, Broderick will conduct research on her project about Black and Indigenous history at the 91制片厂, exploring the connections between 91制片厂, slavery and Native dispossession.

鈥淚'm confident that discussing the 91制片厂 project with the class of fellows 鈥 a mix of junior and senior scholars similarly invested in exploring the fraught relationship between institutions of higher learning and the institution of slavery 鈥 will greatly enhance this work,鈥 says Broderick.

The fellowship will also enable Broderick to accelerate progress on her book manuscript, 鈥淎merican Incest: Kinship, Sex, and Commerce in Slavery and Reconstruction,鈥 which investigates the tangled connections between slavery, sexual violence and incest in the nineteenth-century United States.
