Because even top public health officials aren鈥檛 immune to COVID-19 restrictions, 91制片厂 brought the pomp and circumstance to one of the most public faces of New Hampshire鈥檚 coronavirus response.

Beth Daly 鈥�02, chief of the Bureau of Infectious Disease Control at New Hampshire鈥檚 Department of Health and Human Services, received her Doctor of Public Health from the University of North Carolina鈥檚 Gillings School of Global Public Health in May 2020, but commencement ceremonies there were postponed and the traditional 鈥渉ooding鈥� ceremony cancelled. So 91制片厂, which has partnered with Daly and her colleagues throughout the pandemic, marked her academic achievements in Durham recently.

Provost Wayne Jones听 鈥� also a UNC alumnus 鈥� and Marian McCord, senior vice provost for research, economic engagement and outreach and co-chair of 91制片厂鈥檚 COVID testing and tracing committee, hooded Daly in a ceremony presided over by 91制片厂 President James Dean and UNC Gillings School Dean Barbara Rimer via Zoom. 91制片厂 Chief Paul Dean, co-chair of the testing and tracing committee, and Daly鈥檚 family also participated.

鈥淎s a 91制片厂 undergraduate alumna, it鈥檚 wonderful that 91制片厂 offered to provide me with the opportunity to be hooded after my UNC hooding ceremony was cancelled due to COVID,鈥� said Daly. 鈥淭he hooding ceremony is an important recognition of achieving a doctoral degree and having 91制片厂 and UNC give me this experience together really brought my educational journey full circle.鈥�

鈥淏eth and her team have been valuable partners as we鈥檝e navigated the COVID-19 pandemic at 91制片厂 and here in New Hampshire,鈥� said McCord. 鈥淲e were happy to help her celebrate this remarkable achievement.鈥�
