NH family dairy farmers

The Bohanan farm in Contoocook, N.H., has been in Si Robertson鈥檚 family for more than 100 years. Almost from the start, the Thompson School has played a critical role in the farm鈥檚 development. Robertson notes that his father, grandfathers, a great-grandfather and great uncle were all Thompson School alums. This fall, Si鈥檚 brother Nate will become a first-year student.

Robertson began his studies with a great desire to continue the farm鈥檚 legacy for his family and community. What he learned reinforced his belief that he was on the right career path: 鈥淭he people I鈥檝e worked with鈥攂oth professors and students鈥攈ave supported my aspirations and inspired me.鈥

In the IAG program, Robertson maintained his focus on dairy management, critical to the farm鈥檚 Contoocook Creamery, while delving into diversification options. 鈥淚 learned about soil management and growing small fruits, and that鈥檚 been very helpful,鈥 says Robertson. 鈥淏ut just as important are the learning skills.鈥
