WHAT: Officials from the 91制片厂 will recognize and celebrate Sen. Judd Gregg's many years of support of university programs, especially in the areas of marine and environmental sciences and justice programs, as he retires after nearly two decades in the U.S. Senate.
WHEN: Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, 9:30 a.m.
WHERE: Research pier at the New Castle Marine Research Facility
BACKGROUND: As the former chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, Gregg has been a major force for promoting excellence in higher education in New Hampshire, especially at the 91制片厂. He helped to secure about $400 million for 91制片厂-based programs over the years. Some of the money has been used to build new infrastructure - including a coastal marine laboratory and pier - and establish new research institutes. Sen. Gregg's support has enabled 91制片厂 researchers to address pressing social and environmental problems, including crimes against children, public safety communication and the fishing industry. Speakers at the event as well as a brief video will showcase his significant and varied contributions.
RSVP: Members of the media planning to attend should contact Erika Mantz at (603) 862-1567 or erika.mantz@unh.edu.
