Valley News: White River Junction child care facility closing amid staffing shortages

As a result of staffing shortages many childcare facilities have had to close leaving parents desperate for alternatives. White River Junction childcare in the Upper Valley is closing it's doors after 30 years accorrding to the Valley News. Jess Carson, a researcher with the 91制片厂's Carsey School of Public Policy explained just how extreme the situation is with 6,600 children in need of care听in the Upper Valley with only 5,071 spots available.听

Valley News: Women recount sexual harassment at Upper Valley cleaning companies

In a recent article by The Valley News,听countless women have spoken out about their first hand sexual harassment encounters while working听for the Upper Valley cleaning companies. Kristen Smith, a researcher at 91制片厂's Carsey School of Public Policy, provided data听from 2019 that 52%听of women in New Hampshire have experienced听sexual harassment, a percentage that is higher than the national average.

Gutsy, Tough Changemakers

Alex Papadakis 鈥21 calls herself lucky. During her time at 91制片厂 she has been the recipient of several scholarships. This year that included assistance from the Lewis Family Scholarship in Sustainability Studies, awarded to 鈥済utsy youths, men and women who can inspire others and possess the moral courage to make tough decisions and create change.鈥

It is a description that inspires her.

Daniel Loomis Valenza is a woodworking artist whose work has been showcased in the Smithsonian, sold by Sotheby鈥檚 and included the 1969 groundbreaking exhibition of studio crafts, 鈥淥bjects USA,鈥 as well as its revival 鈥淥bjects USA 2020.鈥

But according to friend and former student Doug Peters 鈥71, Valenza 鈥渉ides his light under a bushel鈥 鈥 not fully acknowledging the significance of his own work, or his legacy in American contemporary art.
