鈥婲ew 91制片厂 research is shedding light on why salt marshes are being lost to sea level rise and how to save them from destruction. The study, which was recently published in the scientific journal Estuaries and Coasts, is the first听 to assess the impact of flooding stress on belowground plant growth in a Gulf of Maine salt marsh and link the results directly to the marsh鈥檚 ability to keep pace with rising sea level.

The "Glue" to Watson Labs

Above Win Watson鈥檚 desk hangs a retirement gift: the 鈥淲atson Lab Tree,鈥 an illustration representing all the students who worked for him the past 41 years at 91制片厂.

The zoology professor鈥檚 students presented him the gift during a retirement party at his Madbury farmhouse, which featured a tent and guest list of 120 people. Many of those students traveled cross-country and camped in his backyard to attend. He says one of retirement鈥檚 perks is hearing the impact he鈥檚 had on students鈥 lives.

Keeping People Rural

The Wisconsin State Journal recently covered the 91制片厂 Carsey School of Public Policy's rural population loss report and how Wisconsin has seen population decline in nearly half its counties 鈥 all rural 鈥撎齣n the last decade. Nearly 35% of U.S. rural counties are experiencing long-term and significant population loss, according to 2019 research released by the Carsey School.
