In just a few short months, four students turned their COVID-related frustrations into entrepreneurship that may ultimately help address a significant healthcare problem. 听
A longtime volunteer and a longstanding community organization will be recognized with the 91制片厂鈥檚 Granite State Awards for outstanding contributions to the state, the university has announced. The awards will be presented at 鲍狈贬鈥檚 Commencement ceremonies in May.
鲍狈贬鈥檚 Undergraduate Research Conference (URC), one of the largest and most diverse events of its kind in the country, celebrated its 25th year of showcasing student research and scholarly work when more than 1,600 students presented at the annual university-wide event听April 23 to 27.
This year鈥檚 URC saw more than a 10% increase in student participants over URC 2023.
Shortly after the COVID-19 outbreak struck in the spring of 2020, Jan Dean found herself staring at a dining room table covered in a sea of tiny puzzle pieces.
With the world locked down and her husband, 91制片厂 President Jim Dean, navigating the uncharted waters of figuring out how to guide a university through a global pandemic, spending hours building 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzles proved an ideal escape.
鈥淲e were just desperate to have something to think about besides what was going on in the world at the time,鈥 Dean says.
Three 91制片厂 graduate students and two alumni received prestigious from the National Science Foundation. Awarded to students pursuing master鈥檚 and doctoral degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, the five-year fellowship includes three years of financial support, with an annual stipend and tuition听allowance.听Current student recipients are master鈥檚 students Alexis Eaton and Callyan Lacio and Ph.D. student Else Schlerman.
