The Beinecke Scholarship Program provides substantial scholarships for highly motivated students to pursue graduate or doctoral study in the arts, humanities, and social sciences.
Deadline: January (Internal); March (External)
Value: $5,000 immediately prior to entering graduate school; An additional $30,000 while attending graduate school. Funding must be used within five years of completion of undergraduate studies.
Eligibility: Undergraduate juniors who are U.S. citizens or US national from American Samoa or the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, have a history of being eligible to receive need-based financial aid during undergraduate studies (slight preference for Pell Grant recipients), and plan to enter a research- or creative-focused master's or doctoral degree program in the arts, humanities, or social sciences.
Major: Majors in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences*
*Students in the social sciences who plan to pursue graduate study in neuroscience or clinical psychology are not eligible.

Beinecke Recommended Steps and Timeline
- By December 1, 2026: (1) Review the eligibility criteria to ensure you are eligible for the award, (2) Email office and request materials, and (3) Research master鈥檚 programs and identify program(s) you intend to pursue
- By December 15, 2026: Request one letter of recommendation from someone who can speak to your intellectual curiosity, character, and potential for graduate study at this time to be submitted by internal deadline. Letter of recommendation should be submitted to national.fellowships@unh.edu by January 19, 2027.
- January 19, 2027, 11:59pm EST: INTERNAL DEADLINE - Submit nomination materials to Fellowships Office (national.fellowships@unh.edu). This includes your CV and 1,000-word statement and 1 letter of recommendation.
- By February 2, 2027: Nominee notified & must complete . Nominee should request 2 additional letters of recommendation and send FERPA form to receive official transcript for application.
- February - March: Work on drafts of statement and CV
- March 22, 2027, 11:59pm EST: Nominee and recommenders must submit all edited documents to Office of National Fellowships by this date so we can submit your materials by the National Application Deadline.
