Rhodes Scholarship

The Rhodes Scholarship is a fully funded award which enables talented young people from around the world to pursue 2 - 3 years of graduate work at the University of Oxford. Scholars can apply to study most full-time postgraduate courses offered by the University of Oxford. The scholarship covers course fees and provides an annual stipend for living expenses, including accommodation. The Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest international educational fellowship and awards 32 scholarships each year.

Deadline: August (Internal); October (External) 

Value: University and College fees, a personal stipend and one economy class airfare to Oxford at the start of the Scholarship, as well as an economy flight back to the student's home country at the conclusion of the Scholarship.

Eligibility: Students must be a citizen of the United States, or a lawful permanent resident of the United States prior to and including at least 5 years of the application deadline; at least 18 but not yet 24 years of age (i.e., the applicant must still be 23 on October 1 in the year of application); sufficiently advanced academically to assure completion of a bachelor’s degree before October 1 in the year following election.

Rhodes Recommended Steps and Timeline

  • By June 1: Review the eligibility criteria to ensure you are eligible for the award. Review the . Research master’s programs and select your ideal program at Oxford. Send your CV to national.fellowships@unh.edu and complete the . Leigh will schedule a meeting to discuss this with you and establish a schedule of meetings to be held through June – August and to discuss your possible referees.
  • July 1: Application opens.
  • By July 13: Send us the names and email addresses of your confirmed reference writers.
  • June - August: Work on drafts of your academic statement and personal statement. Remember you are required to attest to the fact that your statement is your own. People can give you general feedback, but you may not receive support with writing or editing your statements.
  • By August 3: (1) Complete FERPA form and send to Office of National Fellowships (national.fellowships@unh.edu) to request a copy of your transcript. (2) Complete .
  •  August 16, 2026: INTERNAL DEADLINE
  • Early – Mid September: Committee Interview
  • Mid-September: Notification of nomination committee decision. Nominees make final edits to their materials.
  • October 5, 2026: Applicants should submit materials to allow sufficient time for upload ahead of the National Deadline.
  • October 7, 2026, 11:59pm EST: NATIONAL DEADLINE
  • By November 2026: Candidates notified regarding interview status
  • November 13 & 14, 2026: District reception & Interviews
