Worn-out uniforms. Minimal publicity. Half-court hoops played before mostly empty bleachers. These were the facts of life for many female basketball players prior to the enactment of Title IX legislation. Prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex in federally funded programs and activities, the 1972 law helped bring women鈥檚 basketball and other sports into equal status with men鈥檚.

Last year, she was the best in the country. This year, she鈥檚 among the best in the world. In October, Elle Purrier 鈥�18 finished out her rookie year as a professional runner with a trip to the world championships in Doha, Qatar, where she competed in the finals of the women鈥檚 5-kilometer race 鈥� an event she qualified for after competing in the distance only three times as a professional.

Megan Taft 鈥�01 came to 91制片厂 from suburban Connecticut knowing what she didn鈥檛 want: a career in a cubicle. She immediately joined an outdoor education class for a week of backpacking in the White Mountains 鈥� even though she had never hiked a mountain before. The stretching set in motion her first week at 91制片厂 hasn鈥檛 stopped since.

In the last few years, we鈥檝e seen a dramatic rise in the amount of attention being paid to sexual harassment and assault. Some say the new era of believing came with the arrest of Bill Cosby, a man some saw as TV鈥檚 鈥�,鈥� who sexually assaulted as many as 50 women (only those who have come forward with their stories).

The men's soccer team recently won their second straight America East Tournament championship.

When Jon Snow 鈥�22 learned about the opportunity to build a network, work in the (IOL) and begin his college year with a unique experience through joining the program, he couldn鈥檛 pass it up.

At eight months old, the 91制片厂 Police Department鈥檚 newest recruit will be by far the youngest member of the force. She鈥檚 also the only one with four legs. A rescue lab from Pennsylvania, Charlee was brought on board by Chief Paul Dean to support his team鈥檚 work with students. With research showing the positive and therapeutic impact animals have on humans, Dean says it was a no-brainer.

The night sky has special meaning for Glenn Delgado 鈥�84, associate administrator in the Office of Small Business Programs at NASA. When he gazes up and knows the International Space Station may be passing overhead, he鈥檚 filled with pride because he helped contribute to the creation of that feat of aerospace technology.
