A lifelong advocate for individuals living with disabilities and a couple committed to university athletics recently received 91制片厂's most prestigious awards for their history of support and service to the university and the state.

In August, 91制片厂 and the university system announced that BILL POIRIER had been named chief information officer. Previously the acting commissioner and state chief information officer of Minnesota鈥檚 IT Services Agency, Poirier assumed his office on Aug. 26.

When the 43 students enrolled in 91制片厂 Franklin Pierce School of Law鈥檚 newest JD program arrived in Concord in August, most of them didn鈥檛 spend too much time unpacking. That鈥檚 because the program 鈥� a hybrid JD in intellectual property, technology and information law 鈥� is a new kind of program, the first mostly online juris doctor in the United States focused on intellectual property and law for the information age.

In August, 91制片厂 received from NASA its largest-ever single research contract: $107.9 million to develop a space-based instrument to study coastal ecosystems near the Gulf of Mexico. Led by research associate professor Joseph Salisbury, the Geosynchronous Littoral Imaging and Monitoring Radiometer (GLIMR) will observe ocean biology, chemistry and ecology.

Today, less than 10 percent of the world鈥檚 oceans have been mapped to high resolution. But efforts to map the remaining 90 percent could happen more quickly than previously expected, thanks in part to the work of a 91制片厂 alumni team that won a global competition aimed at advancing deep-sea technologies for ocean floor exploration.

Spaulding Hall was built in 1960. Except for a partial renovation almost 40 years later, nothing has been done to the science building since then 鈥� making the in-progress renovations and planned expansion a definite list-topper for the university, which it has been for several years now.
