Shuili Du is not one to spend time reflecting on previous research. Her thoughts mostly center on what topics need exploring next.听

enthusiasm and thirst for research were among the attributes that earned her the 91制片厂鈥檚 Excellence in Research Award.

Russell Miles didn鈥檛 become an award-winning teacher overnight. In fact, he鈥檒l be the first to admit that it was a process.

鈥淚nitially I wasn鈥檛 a patient or understanding instructor. I would go into class thinking my course was the only thing students had going on in their lives,鈥� Miles says. 鈥淥ver time I became more empathetic. I kept my standards high, but I tried to become more understanding of the challenges students may be faced with beyond the classroom.鈥�

Roger Grinde has learned a lot in his 30 years of teaching at the 91制片厂, but he has not grown complacent with that knowledge.

An associate professor of management science, recently earned the 2023 Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics Excellence in Teaching Award for Tenure Track Faculty.听

Every year, a chosen few of 91制片厂鈥檚 outstanding faculty members from each college and school receive Faculty Excellence Awards in recognition of their achievements in teaching, scholarship and service. University-wide awards recognize public service, research, teaching and engagement. The 2023 award recipients include:

With nearly two decades of experience in the justice system, Blair Rowlett 鈥�05 says she鈥檚 learned a lot about 鈥渢he complicated and often tragic relationship between mental illness and criminality.鈥�

Rowlett began her career as a correctional officer at the Strafford County Jail, where she spent enough time with inmates to learn their stories, to hear how they ended up where they were.

A Chicago native with 14 years of nursing experience, Ariel Roche is a first-generation college graduate. With the same fortitude of a nurse relative who became a female admiral in the U.S. Navy., she is forging her career path, sustained by a steady passion to bring skilled comfort to those in need.

Ph.D. student Sean Schaefer and his advisor, associate professor Jessica Ernakovich, have both received grants to use Department of Energy facilities to advance their research on a changing Arctic.
