Sean Sutherlin 鈥21 is from Minnesota. He lives in a small city outside of Minneapolis, where protests sparked by the death of George Floyd in May led to rioting and looting. On the fourth day 鈥 once they felt it was safe 鈥 Sutherlin and his sister joined the march.
鈥淲hen we got there it was really good to see how many people showed up to get justice for George (Floyd) and his family. It was also very sad to see how bad the damage was on some of the streets of Minneapolis,鈥 Sutherlin says.听鈥淚t looked and felt a lot different with all of the burnt buildings and looted stores.鈥
According to a report published by the Carsey School, studies over the past 50 years have shown that higher poverty rates in rural areas are linked to U.S. Census undercounts. They have also shown that the undercount is greater among racial and ethnic minorities than among whites.
On June 11, for the first time since the Civil War, the NH House of Representatives met outside of the State House, holding its听session at 91制片厂鈥檚 Whittemore Center, one of the few places large enough to host the 400 members while allowing safe social distancing.
Nadine Petty has been hired as 91制片厂鈥檚 new chief diversity officer and associate vice president for community, equity and diversity. She currently heads听the Center for Diversity and Enrichment at the University of Iowa. She starts at 91制片厂 Aug. 10.
